Heritage Day 2015

This morning I was privileged enough to join the Greek Federation of South Africa at the Gauteng Carnival. To celebrate Heritage Day we marched to the Union Buildings with many other nationalities. I was lucky enough to get a seat on the Hellenic float and I felt like an absolute princess waving to onlookers as we passed by.

The aim of this morning’s carnival was to unite individuals from all different backgrounds and cultures. This was definitely a success. I have never seen so many nationalities come together before, there were 69 different cultural groups and I guess that is why we are called the Rainbow Nation!

I also got the chance to meet so many people! And took photos with many of them. I even got the chance to be interviewed for Greek TV and was caught on camera for our local stations too. I was extremely proud to be sitting on the Hellenic float and represent the Hellenic community of South Africa.

Thank you to the Greek Federation of South Africa for making me a part of these celebrations and for taking such good care of me. It was truly an honour to be there with you!

I will always be a proud South African Hellene!
