This was my first Mini Congress. It took place in Bloemfontein and was hosted by BHYA. I did not know what to expect as I had never been before. It was a weekend filled with meetings and discussing serious matters relating to Nahysosa, such as the calendar for the year ahead and making sure all affiliates’ events did not clash. Other matters such as the affiliates’ financials were also discussed.
We sat in a big hall around tables and each affiliate had the opportunity to present their portfolio and what they will be doing in the months to come. I had to do the same with what I planned on doing for the year as Miss Hellene, and I found myself being more nervous than I thought to speak in front of everyone for the first time. Regardless, everyone presented their matters very professionally and I was pleasantly surprised to see just how serious everyone took Nahysosa at such meetings.
Although the meetings were long, they were necessary, and after all the admin we were able to go out and celebrate our hard work we all put in that weekend. The BHYA social was a lot of fun because everyone was excited to have organised the events for the year ahead. We partied into the night and got to spend time with friends we hadn’t seen since Congress which was such a treat.
From the drive to Bloemfontein, to the meetings, to the social and even to watching the beautiful sunsets, Mini Congress overall was a great success!
