“Oxi” Day on October 28 commemorates the anniversary when former military general and Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas said, “No” to an ultimatum made by Italian Prime Minister Benito Mussolini to allow Italian forces to occupy strategic locations in Greece or otherwise face war back in 1940.”
Today the Pretoria community came together to celebrate OXI Day. PHYC worked along with the older committee and we sold loukmades, ice-cream, coffee, drinks and food. It really was a successful day with the spirit of Hellenism flying high!
Everyone who attended was entertained by the Pretoria Greek Dancers who did such a wonderful job! It was amazing to see everyone unite and work together “behind the scenes” to make it a pleasant and successful day for the community.
I was working with a fellow Miss Hellene contestant and PHYC committee member, Georgia Charalambous as we sold the ice-cream and loukmades. But if I may say so myself, the favourite part of my day was getting to eat those loukmades!
I look forward to our next community event!
