PHYC Winter Drive

Throughout the month of June PHYC hosted a Winter Drive where we asked for donations to be made in the forms of clothing or shoes in order to be donated to the Jakaranda Children’s Home in Pretoria.
At the end of every week we had a collection and drop off point at the Hellenic Club of Pretoria. It was exciting to see how our collection grew more and more every week! Contributing to this initiative required me to actually go through my cupboards and take out what I don’t wear. This is something I haven’t done in years so I wasn’t looking forward to it because I knew it was going to take some time! But in the end it was all completely worth it. I managed to donate 4 black bags filled with winter clothing, 1 bag filled with shoes and a few stuffed teddies too.
After all the donations were collected, PHYC representative Thania Kasimiotis dropped all our donations and food sponsorships from Taste of Greece to the home. The staff there were overjoyed with all the donations and they place all clothing on the shelves in a specific room where children get to pick their clothes and shoes so they have a “shopping” experience!
Such a simple act of cleaning out my cupboard and donations clothes can make such a huge impact in these children’s lives. I look forward to working with this home in the future!
