One of SHA’s events that I attended was a beer pong tournament at the Greek Sporting Club. We had to made teams of three or four in order to participate in the tournament and I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people attended the event. At the beginning of the evening I was helping the committee at the door as I was also selling bracelets for the Reach For A Dream Foundation. The bracelets were R10 and were being sold for the annual national Slipper Day – if you bought a bracelet, it allowed you to wear slippers to work or university for a charitable cause, as well as get a free coffee on the specific day from Wimpy.
I was put into a team with UJHA’s president, Alexi Mavrikis and one of NAHYSOSA’s national committee members, Tasso Nichas. We made a great team and won almost all of our games against the other teams, putting us through to the final round. It was a heated game where everyone’s attention was placed on us to see who would be the winners of the Ping-Pong-Pa tournament. It was a close call however, we managed to take the trophy home after a victorious battle. The trophy was handmade by SHA’s members and was impressively big. It was a great night that brought everyone together and it is definitely an event I would like to see SHA do again next year.
